In one interview, Lawrence Weiner is asked by a female curator what it is about his use of text that is so compelling and universal. He answers with a series of aphorisms and obfuscations, none of which got the curator any closer to the magician's secrets. During my development time for Rhetorcial Chorus (LW), I worked with artist Mitchel Cumming as a research assistant and asked him to compile a document with every text work ever made by Lawrence Weiner in an attempt to empirically interrogate the data. He combed libraries, books and gallery websites to produce an enormous Excel document which is searchable by date and medium. Here we see 655 text works ordered by year, then alphabetically. The list is limited by the conditions of its making. It is neither exhaustive nor conclusive. This edition was produced to support Agatha Gothe-Snape's project, Rhetorcial Chorus (LW), for Performa 15 in New York in November 2015. All proceeds from the sale of this work go towards AGS's Performa work. AUD 500.00
