Archie Moore: Pillors of Democracy exhibition text by Larissa Behrendt AO Archie Moore’s Pillors of Democracy is a reminder that colonisation needs to be understood as an aggressive and on-going process. This continuing project is explored through the four pillars of modern Western democracy – the Legislature, the Executive, the Judiciary, and the Media (also called the Fourth Estate). The first three are chapters in the Australian Constitution, each designed to check on the other (policing themselves), with the fourth (not mentioned in the Constitution) reflective of the idea that the media should scrutinise governments to hold them accountable to...
